F-Gas Regulations Overview.

F-Gas Legislation Compliance

Compliance with F-Gas Legislation

With the recent changes to the F-Gas legislation, system owners must ensure adherence to the following regulations:

  • Operators of equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases in quantities of 5 tons of CO² or more must ensure the equipment is checked for leaks.
  • A system with a CO² Equivalent of 5 tons CO² or more requires a leak check conducted annually.
  • A system with a CO² Equivalent of 50 tons CO² or more should have a leak check twice per year.
  • Systems with a total CO² Equivalent of 500 tons or more must have a leak check four times per year.

In addition to these regulations, each system must have an F-Gas logbook to record the amount of refrigerant in the system and any additions/removals/corrections made.

CO² equivalent is calculated as the mass of refrigerant multiplied by the Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Examples:

Example 1: R410A – A system with 2Kgs of R410a refrigerant contained in the system equals 4.2 tons, so it falls under the current regulations and does not require a leak check. A system with 2.4 Kgs of R410a or greater will need an annual leak check.

Example 2: R404A – A system with a refrigerant charge of 1.275Kgs will require one annual leak check. A system with 12.8 Kg or more will require a minimum of two leak checks per annum.

Our qualified engineers ensure compliance by keeping digital F-Gas logbook records and conducting leak checks at the specified intervals. For clarification, please contact us at 01524 64273 so we can ensure you stay compliant with the current regulations.
